Kentridge, Kent Meridian drama troops combine to produce 'Fame'

For the first time, Kentridge and Kent Meridian High School Drama troops have combined teams from both schools to produce the musical production of 'Fame."

Originally set in the 1980's, this team's production has moved into a contemporary setting at a performing arts academy for students in grades 9-12.

The academy sets the stage where talented students train for show-business careers. It is here where the audience travels with these teens from auditions to graduation, experiencing their dreams for success along with the disappointments in such a highly competitive setting.

The fall musical is typically composed of a smaller cast for Kentridge productions, but this year, over 100 students are involved in the musical, including stage crew to actors.

With auditions in September, the cast has invested a tremendous amount of time in this production.

The 'Fame' leadership team is led by Kentridge's drama director, Jenny Grajewski, Kent Meridian's drama teacher Jay Thornton and choir director Heath Thompson. Thompson is a Kentridge alum and has acted in many plays directed by Grajewski.

Two Locations

The two-week production will end its first week today with a 7 p.m. performance at Kentridge's performing arts center.

The troupe will then break down the set and "hit the road" to Kent Meridian, performing their second week at the KM performing arts center from Wednesday through Friday, November 19-22.

Show times each evening are at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, a matinee performance is at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for reserved seats and $8 for general seats.

Tickets can be reserved by email at krtickets@comcast.net.
